2025 Hype Mattingly Paddler Development Scholarship

Published Mon 09 Dec 2024

The Hype Mattingly Paddler Development Scholarship is now accepting applications for 2025!

There will be 4 recipients—one from each USDBF region. Each will receive a scholarship to cover registration fees for the renowned Space Coast Dragon Boat Camp, held in April 2025 by Alkame Dragon Boat Services.

Applications are currently being accepted until December 31st, and can be submitted here. Note that applicants must be USDBF members upon submission.

About Hype:

The USDBF recognizes the contributions of Dr. Susan “Hype” Mattingly to the sport of dragon boat. Before her death in 2018, Hype shared her knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport, while making a lasting impact on a great number of paddlers. The Hype Mattingly Paddler Development Scholarship is meant for experienced paddlers that are developing and creating a positive environment in which paddlers can grow and prosper.

Hype was a force of nature; a leader, coach, teammate, and competitor who left an indelible mark on our sport that will never be forgotten. This scholarship is intended to develop paddlers in such a way that they will also return power and passion back to the dragon boat community.

This scholarship fund covers the cost of registration to attend the Space Coast Dragon Boat Camp. This renowned camp, which Hype was an integral part of for many years, helps paddlers develop to meet this goal. This scholarship does not provide funding for lodging, travel, or other camp-related expenses.

About the Scholarship:

One individual from each region will be selected to receive a scholarship for the cost of an individual registration fee, paid directly to Alkame Dragon Boat Services on their behalf. If applicants have already paid for the camp, they are still encouraged to apply as the scholarship would then reimburse their registration fee.

Note: upon submission of this application you are granting your consent to the USDBF to publicize your likeness and information regarding the receipt of the scholarship on its website, newsletter, and social media, should your application be selected.
